Expert Chimney Masonry Repair & Rebuilding in West Hartford
Complete chimney masonry repair — tuckpointing, brick repair, crown work, firebox and smoke chamber rebuilding across central Connecticut.
Last Updated:
Connecticut freeze-thaw winters are hard on brick and mortar. Our CSIA-certified masons handle everything from tuckpointing and spalled-brick replacement to full chimney rebuilds, crown repair, firebox restoration, and smoke chamber parging. Every masonry job ends with our signature white-glove cleanup — roof washed, gutters cleared, footprints raked out of the lawn.
When Connecticut Winters Catch Up With Your Brick
Central Connecticut sees dozens of freeze-thaw cycles every winter. Water works its way into hairline cracks in mortar joints and porous brick faces, freezes overnight, and expands. Come spring you notice spalling — brick faces flaking off — or efflorescence, the white staining that means moisture is moving through the masonry. Left alone, that damage accelerates every season until the crown, firebox, or entire chimney is compromised.
Our masonry crew fixes it before it gets worse. If a Level 2 inspection shows the base is sound and the damage is localized, we do targeted tuckpointing and brick replacement. If the structure is past that, we plan a partial rebuild above the roofline or a full-height rebuild, matched to the original brick style so it looks right on your home.
Every Type of Chimney Masonry Work
Tuckpointing and repointing. Grinding out deteriorated mortar and packing fresh, matched mortar into the joints. We use lime mortar on pre-1930s chimneys and Portland-blend mortars where appropriate. Done right, tuckpointing adds decades to a chimney’s life.
Brick replacement. Spalled bricks get cut out and replaced with matched units. We keep a stock of common historic brick sizes and colors to match Colonial, Federal, and mid-century Connecticut homes.
Chimney crown repair and replacement. The chimney crown is the concrete slab on top of the chimney that sheds water. Cracked crowns are one of the top leak sources. We repair minor cracks with elastomeric crown sealer and replace failed crowns with a proper overhang and drip edge so the next one lasts.
Firebox rebuilding and smoke chamber parging. Cracked firebricks and missing refractory mortar in the firebox are fire hazards. We rebuild fireboxes with proper firebrick and refractory mortar and parge the smoke chamber walls smooth to improve draft.
Full and partial rebuilds. When damage is beyond repair, we tear down and rebuild — above the roofline or full-height — matched to the original.
Our White-Glove Post-Job Cleanup
Masonry work is messy. Mortar dust, brick chips, and dropped tools happen. That’s why every masonry job at West Hartford Chimney Repair ends with our white-glove protocol: we wash the roof, clear the gutters, water any plants covered in dust, and rake the footprints out of your lawn. You should not be able to tell we were there — except your chimney looks brand new.
Financing on Larger Masonry Projects
Full rebuilds, historic restoration, and multi-fireplace masonry work can run into five figures. We partner with Synchrony to offer flexible financing so you can move forward on safety-critical work without draining savings. Ask about it during your free estimate.
