Regular sweeping is the single best defense against chimney fires. Our CSIA-certified sweeps remove creosote and soot with rotary power tools and HEPA vacuums, protecting your home with drop cloths from door to firebox. We clean fireplace flues, wood-stove flues, and furnace and oil flues, and leave your living space exactly as we found it.

## Why Annual Sweeping Matters

Every time you burn wood, **creosote** builds up on the inside of your **flue tile**. It starts as light, powdery **soot** you can brush off with a hand tool, but it doesn’t stay that way. As the flue cools between burns, tar deposits form. After a season or two of neglect, those deposits harden into **glazed creosote**, a rock-like coating that is extremely flammable and can only be removed with rotary power tools and specialized chemicals.

The

three stages of creosote

[/guide/stages-of-creosote-buildup-explained/ →](/guide/stages-of-creosote-buildup-explained/)

drive most residential chimney fires — and per **NFPA 211**, your chimney should be inspected annually and swept whenever buildup reaches roughly 1/8 inch. That’s what we do here.

## What Happens During a Sweep

We show up in a marked truck, in a clean uniform, on time. Then:

1. **We protect your home first.** Drop cloths run from the front door to the firebox. A HEPA vacuum stays on the whole time we sweep.
2. **We inspect before we clean.** A quick Level 1 visual check tells us what type of buildup you have and whether any flue tile damage needs attention.
3. **Rotary power sweeping.** We feed a rotary sweep brush up through the flue, breaking loose creosote and soot into the HEPA vacuum.
4. **Post-sweep visual check.** We confirm the flue is clear, share photos, and note anything that needs future work (crown crack, minor liner damage, etc.).
5. **Spotless cleanup.** Drop cloths get folded and taken away. You should not be able to tell we were there.

## Not Just Fireplace Flues

Our sweep service covers:

- **Wood-burning fireplaces** — the most common annual sweep
- **Wood stoves and inserts** — inserts often need liner service too
- **Pellet stoves** — different soot profile, still needs annual cleaning
- **Furnace flues** — corrosive gas and oil byproducts damage masonry
- **Oil burner flues** — annual cleaning cuts CO risk

## Add-On: Level 2 Video Inspection

If your chimney hasn’t been inspected in years, or you’re buying or selling a home, ask about our

Level 2 video scan

[/chimney-inspections/ →](/chimney-inspections/)

as an add-on. We drop an interior camera into the flue and record a walk-through of every foot, showing you cracks, glazed creosote, and liner damage a visual-only check misses.

## Text-Based Booking

We schedule chimney sweeps by text. Send us your address and a rough sense of what you have (single fireplace, wood stove, oil furnace flue) and we’ll send back available windows and a firm price.

## What Our Customers Say

5 average from 1,000+ reviews

> “Found a leak during the heavy rains last week. They were out the next morning, traced it to the flashing, and fixed it same day. Clean, professional, and fair pricing.”

> “Our 1920s chimney needed a full rebuild. The crew rebuilt it beautifully and then washed the roof and raked the lawn afterward. You'd never know they were here, except the chimney looks brand new.”

> “Booked a sweep and inspection by text. The tech laid down drop cloths, used a HEPA vacuum, and showed me the video scan of the flue. Genuinely the most thorough chimney company I've used.”

## Questions About Chimney Sweeping

### How often should I have my chimney swept?

+

Sweep when creosote reaches about 1/8 inch — typically once a year for regular wood-burners. Gas and oil flues also need annual inspection and cleaning to prevent corrosive buildup and CO risk.

### Will chimney sweeping make a mess in my home?

+

No. We protect your home with drop cloths from the door to the firebox and use HEPA vacuums to contain all soot and creosote. Most homeowners can't tell we swept until they smell how clean the fireplace is.

### How long does a chimney sweep take?

+

A standard single-flue sweep with visual inspection takes about 45–60 minutes. Multi-flue chimneys or heavily glazed flues take longer. We give you the timing when we book.

### Can you sweep my gas or oil furnace flue?

+

Yes. Oil and gas byproducts corrode masonry flues and can block them enough to push carbon monoxide into your home. We inspect and clean furnace and oil flues alongside our fireplace sweeps.
